Monthly Crimean Tatar Language Course. 2013

A monthly Crimean Tatar language course.

▸ These courses, held in Crimea to raise the prestige of the Crimean Tatar language and literature (and of Crimean Tatar culture), are of great importance, because the number of our compatriots who do not know their mother tongue grows every day. Beyond being the language of the family and of the younger generation's parents, Crimean Tatar is losing its strength and presence in everyday life. This weakens national feeling and faith in the nation's bright future. A generation unaware of our national values is in great need of its people's cultural heritage.

▸ In this context, experienced faculty members of the Faculty of Crimean Tatar and Turkish Philology of the Crimean Engineering and Pedagogical University organised special lessons to teach, as a whole, the national language and literature, traditions and culture, and the ethical and social values that hold a broad place in Crimean Tatar Muslim society. In these lessons our compatriots received basic knowledge of correct spoken Crimean Tatar and its pronunciation and of sound understandings consistent with religion and national traditions, as well as information on the historical development of the Crimean Tatars and their relations and interactions with other peoples. Thus the main aim of these lessons, conducted with creative and dynamic methods, was to instil in participants love and respect for their own language, history and traditions.

▸ These month-long courses were open free of charge to all students in Crimea and to any interested citizens. The lessons were held free of charge from 17 February to 19 March.
